           Isupposehehadbeenmoretalkativeandlivelyonce,butheseemedtohavebeencompletelyexhaustedlongbeforeIknewhim.IthoughtMrs.Jellybyneverwouldhaveleftoffserenelylookingoverherpapersanddrinkingcoffeethatnight.Itwastwelveo’clockbeforewecouldobtainpossessionoftheroom,andtheclearanceitrequiredthenwassodiscouragingthatCaddy,whowasalmosttiredout,satdowninthemiddleofthedustandcried.Butshesooncheeredup,andwedidwonderswithitbeforewewenttobed.Inthemorningitlooked,bytheaidofafewflowersandaquantityofsoapandwaterandalittlearrangement,quitegay.Theplainbreakfastmadeacheerfulshow,andCaddywasperfectlycharming.Butwhenmydarlingcame,IthoughtandIthinknowthatIneverhadseensuchadearfaceasmybeautifulpet’s.Wemadealittlefeastforthechildrenupstairs,andweputPeepyattheheadofthetable,andweshowedthemCaddyinherbridaldress,andtheyclappedtheirhandsandhurrahed,andCaddycriedtothinkthatshewasgoingawayfromthemandhuggedthemoverandoveragainuntilwebroughtPrinceuptofetchherawaywhen,Iamsorrytosay,Peepybithim.ThentherewasoldMr.Turveydropdownstairs,inastateofdeportmentnottobeexpressed,benignlyblessingCaddyandgivingmyguardiantounderstandthathisson’shappinesswashisownparentalworkandthathesacrificedpersonalconsiderationstoensureit."Mydearsir,"saidMr.Turveydrop,"theseyoungpeoplewilllivewithme;myhouseislargeenoughfortheiraccommodation,andtheyshallnotwanttheshelterofmyroof.
