           AyrtonremovedthehobblesfromthebullockandMulradyfromthehorse,andtheybegantoreturntotheencampment,followingthewindingmarginoftheriver.InhalfanhourtheyrejoinedPaganel,andMcNabbs,andtheladies,andtoldthemofthisfreshdisaster.

           "Uponmyhonor,Ayrton,"theMajorcouldnothelpsaying,"itisapitythatyouhadn’thadtheshoeingofallourbeastswhenwefordedtheWimerra."
