Itwillberememberedthatonthenightofthe29thor30thoflastDecembertherewasanaccidentatCamdenBridge,fivemilesbeyondthestationatCastlemaine,ontherailwayfromMelbournetoSandhurst.Thenightexpress,11.45,dashingalongatfullspeed,wasprecipitatedintotheLoddonRiver.
CamdenBridgehadbeenleftopen.Thenumerousrobberiescommittedaftertheaccident,thebodyoftheguardpickedupabouthalfamilefromCamdenBridge,provedthatthiscatastrophewastheresultofacrime.
Indeed,thecoroner’sinquestdecidedthatthecrimemustbeattributedtothebandofconvictswhichescapedsixmonthsagofromthePenitentiaryatPerth,WesternAustralia,justastheywereabouttobetransferredtoNorfolkIsland.
