           AtlastGlenarvansaid:

           "Well,ourfriendswon’tbedisappointedthistime;theywillbesureoffindingclear,coolwaterwhentheygetherethatistosay,ifThalcaveleavesanyforthem."

           "Butcouldn’twegotomeetthem?Itwouldsparethemseveralhours’sufferingandanxiety."

           "You’rerightmyboy;buthowcouldwecarrythemthiswater?TheleatherbottleswereleftwithWilson.No;itisbetterforustowaitforthemasweagreed.Theycan’tbeheretillaboutthemiddleofthenight,sothebestthingwecandoistogetagoodbedandagoodsupperreadyforthem."

           ThalcavehadnotwaitedforGlenarvan’spropositiontoprepareanencampment.Hehadbeenfortunateenoughtodiscoveronthebanksoftherioaramada,asortofenclosure,whichhadservedasafoldforflocks,andwasshutinonthreesides.Amoresuitableplacecouldnotbefoundfortheirnight’slodging,providedtheyhadnofearofsleepingintheopenairbeneaththestar-litheavens;andnoneofThalcave’scompanionshadmuchsolicitudeonthatscore.Accordinglytheytookpossessionatonce,andstretchedthemselvesatfulllengthonthegroundinthebrightsunshine,todrytheirdrippinggarments.

           "Well,nowwe’vesecuredalodging,wemustthinkofsupper,"saidGlenarvan."Ourfriendsmustnothavereasontocomplainofthecourierstheysenttoprecedethem;andifIamnotmuchmistaken,theywillbeverysatisfied.
