           AdayortwopassedbeforeJanehadcouragetospeakofherfeelingstoElizabeth; butatlast,onMrs.Bennet’sleavingthemtogether,afteralongerirritationthanusualaboutNetherfieldanditsmaster,shecouldnothelpsaying:

           Elizabethlookedathersisterwithincreduloussolicitude,butsaidnothing. 

           "Youdoubtme,"criedJane,slightlycolouring;"indeed,youhavenoreason. Hemayliveinmymemoryasthemostamiablemanofmyacquaintance,butthatisall. Ihavenothingeithertohopeorfear,andnothingtoreproachhimwith. ThankGod!Ihavenotthatpain. Alittletime,therefore—Ishallcertainlytrytogetthebetter." 

           Withastrongervoiceshesoonadded, "Ihavethiscomfortimmediately,thatithasnotbeenmorethananerroroffancyonmyside,andthatithasdonenoharmtoanyonebutmyself." 

           "MydearJane!"exclaimedElizabeth,"youaretoogood. Yoursweetnessanddisinterestednessarereallyangelic;Idonotknowwhattosaytoyou. IfeelasifIhadneverdoneyoujustice,orlovedyouasyoudeserve."
