           Shehighlyapprovedhisforbearance,andtheyhadleisureforafulldiscussionofit,andforallthecommendationwhichtheycivillybestowedoneachother,asWickhamandanotherofficerwalkedbackwiththemtoLongbourn,andduringthewalkheparticularlyattendedtoher. Hisaccompanyingthemwasadoubleadvantage;shefeltallthecomplimentitofferedtoherself,anditwasmostacceptableasanoccasionofintroducinghimtoherfatherandmother. 

           Soonaftertheirreturn,aletterwasdeliveredtoMissBennet;itcamefromNetherfield. Theenvelopecontainedasheetofelegant,little,hot-pressedpaper,wellcoveredwithalady’sfair,flowinghand; andElizabethsawhersister’scountenancechangeasshereadit,andsawherdwellingintentlyonsomeparticularpassages. Janerecollectedherselfsoon,andputtingtheletteraway,triedtojoinwithherusualcheerfulnessinthegeneralconversation; butElizabethfeltananxietyonthesubjectwhichdrewoffherattentionevenfromWickham; andnosoonerhadheandhecompaniontakenleave,thanaglancefromJaneinvitedhertofollowherupstairs. Whentheyhadgainedtheirownroom,Jane,takingouttheletter,said: 

           "ThisisfromCarolineBingley; whatitcontainshassurprisedmeagooddeal. ThewholepartyhaveleftNetherfieldbythistime,andareontheirwaytotownandwithoutanyintentionofcomingbackagain. Youshallhearwhatshesays." 

           Shethenreadthefirstsentencealoud,whichcomprisedtheinformationoftheirhavingjustresolvedtofollowtheirbrothertotowndirectly,andoftheirmeaningtodineinGrosvenorStreet,whereMr.Hursthadahouse.
