           Thursdaythegirlshadadriveinthepark,andintheeveningMissBarrytookthemtoaconcertintheAcademyofMusic,whereanotedprimadonnawastosing.ToAnnetheeveningwasaglitteringvisionofdelight.

           “Oh,Marilla,itwasbeyonddescription.IwassoexcitedIcouldn’teventalk,soyoumayknowwhatitwaslike.Ijustsatinenrapturedsilence.MadameSelitskywasperfectlybeautiful,andworewhitesatinanddiamonds.ButwhenshebegantosingIneverthoughtaboutanythingelse.Oh,Ican’ttellyouhowIfelt.Butitseemedtomethatitcouldneverbehardtobegoodanymore.IfeltlikeIdowhenIlookuptothestars.Tearscameintomyeyes,but,oh,theyweresuchhappytears.Iwassosorrywhenitwasallover,andItoldMissBarryIdidn’tseehowIwasevertoreturntocommonlifeagain.
