           “Supposeyoujumpupandtellhersoyourself,”saidamerryvoice.

           Anneflewup,tofindMrs.Allanstandingbyherbed,surveyingherwithlaughingeyes.

           “Mydearlittlegirl,youmustn’tcrylikethis,”shesaid,genuinelydisturbedbyAnne’stragicface.“Why,it’salljustafunnymistakethatanybodymightmake.”

           “Oh,no,ittakesmetomakesuchamistake,”saidAnneforlornly.“AndIwantedtohavethatcakesoniceforyou,Mrs.Allan.”
