           “Oh,youcantalkasmuchasyoulike.Idon’tmind.”

           “Oh,I’msoglad.IknowyouandIaregoingtogetalongtogetherfine.It’ssucharelieftotalkwhenonewantstoandnotbetoldthatchildrenshouldbeseenandnotheard.I’vehadthatsaidtomeamilliontimesifIhaveonce.AndpeoplelaughatmebecauseIusebigwords.Butifyouhavebigideasyouhavetousebigwordstoexpressthem,haven’tyou?”

           “Wellnow,thatseemsreasonable,”saidMatthew.

           “Mrs.Spencersaidthatmytonguemustbehunginthemiddle.Butitisn’t—it’sfirmlyfastenedatoneend.Mrs.SpencersaidyourplacewasnamedGreenGables.Iaskedherallaboutit.Andshesaidthereweretreesallaroundit.Iwasgladderthanever.Ijustlovetrees.Andthereweren’tanyatallabouttheasylum,onlyafewpoorweeny-teenythingsoutinfrontwithlittlewhitewashedcageythingsaboutthem.Theyjustlookedlikeorphansthemselves,thosetreesdid.Itusedtomakemewanttocrytolookatthem.
