           “Knewthem,Mr.Jeorling?IshouldthinkIdid,indeed!ThatArthurPymwasastrangeperson,alwayswantingtorushintoadventures—arealrashAmerican,quitecapableofstartingofftothemoon!Hashegonethereatlast?”

           “No,notquite,Mr.Glass,but,duringhervoyage,theschooner,itseems,didclearthepolarcircle,andpasstheice-wall.Shegotfartherthananyshiphadeverdonebefore.”

           “Whatawonderfulfeat!”

           “Yes.Unfortunately,theJanedidnotreturn.ArthurPymandWilliamGuyescapedthedoomoftheJaneandthemostofhercrew.TheyevengotbacktoAmerica,howIdonotknow.AfterwardsArthurPymdied,butunderwhatcircumstancesIamignorant.Asforthehalf-breed,afterhavingretiredtoIllinois,hewentoffonedaywithoutawordtoanyoneandnotraceofhimhasbeenfound.”

           “AndWilliamGuy?”askedMr.Glass.
