ArthurPymgivesthefullestdetailsoftherescueofhiscompanionandhimselfafterthiscollision,underconditionsofextremedifficulty.Atlength,thankstothesecondofficerofthePenguin,fromNewLondon,whicharrivedonthesceneofthecatastrophe,thecomradeswerepickedwithlifeallbutextinct,andtakenbacktoNantucket.
Thisadventure,towhichIcannotdenyanappearanceveracity,wasaningeniouspreparationforthechaptersthatweretofollow,andindeed,uptothedayonwhichPympenetratesintothepolarcircle,thenarrativemightconceivablyberegardedasauthentic.
