           Hunttheboatswain,MartinHolt,fourmen,andmyselftookourplacesintheboatwithoutarms;fortherewasnolongeranythingtofear.

           Wehadonlytoregainourship,returningbytheeastsideofthecoast.Huntbroughtusthroughthespacewhereshedshadbeenerectedforthepreparationofthebêche-demer,andwesawtheremainsofthem.Onallsidessilenceandabandonmentreigned.

           WemadeabriefpauseattheplacewhereArthurPymandDirkPetersseizedupontheboatwhichborethemtowardshigherlatitudes,eventothathorizonofdarkvapourwhoserentspermittedthemtodiscernthehugehumanfigure,thewhitegiant.
