           Theyhadcomewithoutfoodorsleep,withouttheirhorses,ambulancesorsupplytrainsand,withoutwaitingfortherest,theyhadleapedfromthetrainsandintothebattle.AndtheYankeeshadbeendrivenoutofGeorgia,backintoTennessee.

           Itwasthegreatestfeatofthewar,andAtlantatookprideandpersonalsatisfactioninthethoughtthatitsrailroadshadmadethevictorypossible.

           Noneofthem,ofcourse,comparedwithGeneralLee.FaithintheGeneralandthearmywasstillstrong.Confidenceinultimatevictoryneverwavered.Butthewarwasdraggingoutsolong.Thereweresomanydead,somanywoundedandmaimedforlife,somanywidowed,somanyorphaned.Andtherewasstillalongstruggleahead,whichmeantmoredead,morewounded,morewidowsandorphans.
