           Itwasthesameatsupperwheretheyallpliedhimwithquestionsaboutthewar.Thewar!Whocaredaboutthewar?Scarlettdidn’tthinkAshleycaredverymuchforthatsubjecteither.Hetalkedatlength,laughedfrequentlyanddominatedtheconversationmorecompletelythanshehadeverseenhimdobefore,butheseemedtosayverylittle.Hetoldthemjokesandfunnystoriesaboutfriends,talkedgailyaboutmakeshifts,makinglightofhungerandlongmarchesintherain,anddescribedindetailhowGeneralLeehadlookedwhenherodebyontheretreatfromGettysburgandquestioned:"Gentlemen,areyouGeorgiatroops?Well,wecan’tgetalongwithoutyouGeorgians!"

           ItseemedtoScarlettthathewastalkingfervishlytokeepthemfromaskingquestionshedidnotwanttoanswer.
