           EveryoneknewwhattheYankeeshaddoneinMissouri,Kentucky,TennesseeandVirginia.EvensmallchildrencouldrecitewithhateandfearthehorrorstheYankeeshadinflictedupontheconqueredterritory.AlreadyAtlantawasfullofrefugeesfromeastTennessee,andthetownhadheardfirsthandstoriesfromthemofwhatsufferingtheyhadgonethrough.Inthatsection,theConfederatesympathizerswereintheminorityandthehandofwarfellheavilyuponthem,asitdidonalltheborderstates,neighborinformingagainstneighborandbrotherkillingbrother.TheserefugeescriedouttoseePennsylvaniaonesolidsheetofflame,andeventhegentlestofoldladiesworeexpressionsofgrimpleasure.
