           Shelookedfurtivelyaroundher,asthetreacherous,blasphemousthoughtsrushedthroughhermind,fearfulthatsomeonemightfindthemwrittenclearlyuponherface.Oh,whycouldn’tshefeellikethoseotherwomen!TheywerewholeheartedandsincereintheirdevotiontotheCause.Theyreallymeanteverythingtheysaidanddid.AndifanyoneshouldeversuspectthatsheNo,noonemusteverknow!ShemustgoonmakingapretenseofenthusiasmandprideintheCausewhichshecouldnotfeel,actingoutherpartofthewidowofaConfederateofficerwhobearshergriefbravely,whoseheartisinthegrave,whofeelsthatherhusband’sdeathmeantnothingifitaidedtheCausetotriumph.

           TheotherwomenweresimplysillyandhystericalwiththeirtalkofpatriotismandtheCause,andthemenwerealmostasbadwiththeirtalkofvitalissuesandStates’Rights.She,ScarlettO’HaraHamilton,alonehadgoodhard-headedIrishsense.Shewasn’tgoingtomakeafooloutofherselfabouttheCause,butneitherwasshegoingtomakeafooloutofherselfbyadmittinghertruefeelings.Shewashard-headedenoughtobepracticalaboutthesituation,andnoonewouldeverknowhowshefelt.Howsurprisedthebazaarwouldbeiftheyknewwhatshereallywasthinking!
