Hethenledthemintohisqueermansionandshowedthemthebeautifulroomsinallthefivestories.Thelowerroomwasagrandreceptionhall,withahand-organinonecorner.ThisinstrumenttheScarecrow,whenalone,couldturntoamusehimself,ashewasveryfondofmusic.Thewallswerehungwithwhitesilk,uponwhichflocksofblackcrowswereembroideredinblackdiamonds.Someofthechairsweremadeintheshapeofbigcrowsandupholsteredwithcushionsofcorn-coloredsilk.
Thesecondstorycontainedafinebanquetroom,wheretheScarecrowmightentertainhisguests,andthethreestoriesabovethatwerebed-chambersexquisitelyfurnishedanddecorated.
"Fromtheserooms,"saidtheScarecrow,proudly,"onemayobtainfineviewsofthesurroundingcornfields.ThecornIgrowisalwayshusky,andIcalltheearsmyregiments,becausetheyhavesomanykernels.OfcourseIcannotridemycobs,butIreallydon’tcareshucksaboutthat.Takenaltogether,myfarmwillstackupwithanyintheneighborhood."
ThevisitorspartookofsomelightrefreshmentandthenhurriedawaytoresumetheroadtotheEmeraldCity.TheScarecrowfoundaseatinthewagonbetweenOmbyAmbyandtheShaggyMan,andhisweightdidnotaddmuchtotheloadbecausehewasstuffedwithstraw.
