"No,Imusttakeoneatatime,"saidKiki."Butthefiftytransformationscanbemadeinanhourorso.Stayhere,Ruggedo,andIwillchangethefirstmonkey—thatoneattheleft,ontheendofthelimb—intoaGiantwithasword."
"Whereareyougoing?"askedtheNome.
"ImustnotspeaktheMagicWordinthepresenceofanotherperson,"declaredKiki,whowasdeterminednottoallowhistreacherouscompaniontolearnhissecret,"soIwillgowhereyoucannothearme."
RuggedotheNomewasdisappointed,buthehopedstilltocatchtheboyunawaresandsurprisetheMagicWord.Sohemerelynoddedhislionhead,andKikigotupandwentbackintotheforestashortdistance.Herehespiedahollowtree,andbychanceitwasthesamehollowtreeinwhichtheWizardofOz,nowintheformofaFox,hadhiddenhimself.
AsKikiranuptothetreetheFoxduckeditshead,sothatitwasoutofsightinthedarkhollowbeneaththehole,andthenKikiputhisfaceintotheholeandwhispered:"IwantthatmonkeyonthebranchatthelefttobecomeaGiantmanfiftyfeettall,dressedinauniformandwithasharpsword—Pyrzqxgl!"
ThenheranbacktoRuggedo,buttheWizardFoxhadheardquiteplainlyeverywordthathehadsaid.
