Thegirlwalkedthoughtfullyaroundtothebackofthepalace,andpresentlycameuponthefamousScarecrowofOz,whohashavingtwoofthepalaceservantsstuffhislegswithfreshstraw.
"WhatareyougoingtogiveOzmaonherbirthday?"askedDorothy.
"Iwanttosurpriseher,"answeredtheScarecrow.
"Iwon’ttell,"promisedDorothy.
"Well,I’mhavingsomestrawslippersmadeforher—allstraw,mindyou,andbraidedveryartistically.Ozmahasalwaysadmiredmystrawfilling,soI’msureshe’llbepleasedwiththeselovelystrawslippers."
"Ozmawillbepleasedwithanythingherlovingfriendsgiveher,"saidthegirl."WhatI’Mworriedabout,Scarecrow,iswhattogiveOzmathatshehasn’tgotalready."
