Dorothyhoppedoffthelion’sbackandranaroundthebushtoseetheDiamondPalaceoftheLonesomeDuck,althoughthegaudyfowlprotestedinaseriesoflowquacks.Thegirlfound,indeed,aglisteningdomeformedofclearestdiamonds,neatlycementedtogether,withadoorwayatthesidejustbigenoughtoadmittheduck.
"Wheredidyoufindsomanydiamonds?"askedDorothy,wonderingly.
"Iknowaplaceinthemountainswheretheyarethickaspebbles,"saidtheLonesomeDuck,"andIbroughtthemhereinmybill,onebyoneandputthemintheriverandletthewaterrunoverthemuntiltheywerebrightlypolished.ThenIbuiltthispalace,andI’mpositiveit’stheonlyDiamondPalaceinalltheworld."
