           TheWizardselectedadozenthatseemedintelligentandgood-tempered,andthenheopenedhisblackbagandtookoutaqueerlyshapeddishthatwassilverontheoutsideandgoldontheinside.Intothisdishhepouredapowderandsetfiretoit.Itmadeathicksmokethatquiteenvelopedthetwelvemonkeys,aswellastheformoftheWizard,butwhenthesmokeclearedawaythedishhadbeenchangedtoagoldencagewithsilverbars,andthetwelvemonkeyshadbecomeaboutthreeincheshighandwereallseatedcomfortablyinsidethecage.

           ThethousandsofhairyanimalswhohadwitnessedthisactofmagicweremuchastonishedandapplaudedtheWizardbybarkingaloudandshakingthelimbsofthetreesinwhichtheysat.Dorothysaid:"Thatwasafinetrick,Wizard!"andtheGrayAperemarked:"YouarecertainlythemostwonderfulmagicianinalltheLandofOz!"
