"Oh,howthirstyIam!"hecried,indeliriousaccents.
Itoowasthirsty.Mythroatwasonfire.And,yet,squattingonthefloor,Iwentonhunting,hunting,huntingforthespringoftheinvisibledoor...especiallyasitwasdangeroustoremainintheforestaseveningdrewnigh.Alreadytheshadesofnightwerebeginningtosurroundus.Ithadhappenedveryquickly:nightfallsquicklyintropicalcountries...suddenly,withhardlyanytwilight.

Theheatdidnotgowiththedaylight;onthecontrary,itwasnowstillhotterundertheblueraysofthemoon.Iurgedtheviscounttoholdourweaponsreadytofireandnottostrayfromcamp,whileIwentonlookingformyspring.
