Ifreelyconfess,thatallthelittleknowledgeIhaveofanyvalue,wasacquiredbythelecturesIreceivedfrommymaster,andfromhearingthediscoursesofhimandhisfriends;towhichIshouldbeproudertolisten,thantodictatetothegreatestandwisestassemblyinEurope.Iadmiredthestrength,comeliness,andspeedoftheinhabitants;andsuchaconstellationofvirtues,insuchamiablepersons,producedinmethehighestveneration.Atfirst,indeed,Ididnotfeelthatnaturalawe,whichtheYahoosandallotheranimalsbeartowardthem;butitgrewuponmebydecrees,muchsoonerthanIimagined,andwasmingledwitharespectfulloveandgratitude,thattheywouldcondescendtodistinguishmefromtherestofmyspecies.
