           FriendshipandbenevolencearethetwoprincipalvirtuesamongtheHouyhnhnms;andthesenotconfinedtoparticularobjects,butuniversaltothewholerace;forastrangerfromtheremotestpartisequallytreatedwiththenearestneighbour,andwhereverhegoes,looksuponhimselfasathome.Theypreservedecencyandcivilityinthehighestdegrees,butarealtogetherignorantofceremony.Theyhavenofondnessfortheircoltsorfoals,butthecaretheytakeineducatingthemproceedsentirelyfromthedictatesofreason.
