           Tohershewasmostinjudiciouslyindulgent.Williamwasherpride;Betseyherdarling;andJohn,Richard,Sam,Tom,andCharlesoccupiedalltherestofhermaternalsolicitude,alternatelyherworriesandhercomforts.Thesesharedherheart:hertimewasgivenchieflytoherhouseandherservants.Herdayswerespentinakindofslowbustle;allwasbusywithoutgettingon,alwaysbehindhandandlamentingit,withoutalteringherways;wishingtobeaneconomist,withoutcontrivanceorregularity;dissatisfiedwithherservants,withoutskilltomakethembetter,andwhetherhelping,orreprimanding,orindulgingthem,withoutanypowerofengagingtheirrespect.

           Ofhertwosisters,Mrs.PriceverymuchmoreresembledLadyBertramthanMrs.Norris.Shewasamanagerbynecessity,withoutanyofMrs.Norris’sinclinationforit,oranyofheractivity.Herdispositionwasnaturallyeasyandindolent,likeLadyBertram’s;andasituationofsimilaraffluenceanddo-nothingnesswouldhavebeenmuchmoresuitedtohercapacitythantheexertionsandself-denialsoftheonewhichherimprudentmarriagehadplacedherin.ShemighthavemadejustasgoodawomanofconsequenceasLadyBertram,butMrs.Norriswouldhavebeenamorerespectablemotherofninechildrenonasmallincome.
