           Thisthreatwassopalpablydisregarded,thatthoughwithinfiveminutesafterwardsthethreeboysallburstintotheroomtogetherandsatdown,Fannycouldnotconsideritasaproofofanythingmorethantheirbeingforthetimethoroughlyfagged,whichtheirhotfacesandpantingbreathsseemedtoprove,especiallyastheywerestillkickingeachother’sshins,andhallooingoutatsuddenstartsimmediatelyundertheirfather’seye.

           Thenextopeningofthedoorbroughtsomethingmorewelcome:itwasforthetea-things,whichshehadbegunalmosttodespairofseeingthatevening.Susanandanattendantgirl,whoseinferiorappearanceinformedFanny,tohergreatsurprise,thatshehadpreviouslyseentheupperservant,broughtineverythingnecessaryforthemeal;Susanlooking,assheputthekettleonthefireandglancedathersister,asifdividedbetweentheagreeabletriumphofshewingheractivityandusefulness,andthedreadofbeingthoughttodemeanherselfbysuchanoffice.“Shehadbeenintothekitchen,”shesaid,“tohurrySallyandhelpmakethetoast,andspreadthebreadandbutter,orshedidnotknowwhentheyshouldhavegottea,andshewassurehersistermustwantsomethingafterherjourney.”

           Fannywasverythankful.Shecouldnotbutownthatsheshouldbeverygladofalittletea,andSusanimmediatelysetaboutmakingit,asifpleasedtohavetheemploymentalltoherself;andwithonlyalittleunnecessarybustle,andsomefewinjudiciousattemptsatkeepingherbrothersinbetterorderthanshecould,acquittedherselfverywell.
