           Fanny’sfeelingsontheoccasionweresuchasshebelievedherselfincapableofexpressing;buthercountenanceandafewartlesswordsfullyconveyedalltheirgratitudeanddelight,andhercousinbegantofindheraninterestingobject.Hetalkedtohermore,and,fromallthatshesaid,wasconvincedofherhavinganaffectionateheart,andastrongdesireofdoingright;andhecouldperceivehertobefartherentitledtoattentionbygreatsensibilityofhersituation,andgreattimidity.Hehadneverknowinglygivenherpain,buthenowfeltthatsherequiredmorepositivekindness;andwiththatviewendeavoured,inthefirstplace,tolessenherfearsofthemall,andgaveherespeciallyagreatdealofgoodadviceastoplayingwithMariaandJulia,andbeingasmerryaspossible.

           FromthisdayFannygrewmorecomfortable.Shefeltthatshehadafriend,andthekindnessofhercousinEdmundgaveherbetterspiritswitheverybodyelse.Theplacebecamelessstrange,andthepeoplelessformidable;andifthereweresomeamongstthemwhomshecouldnotceasetofear,shebeganatleasttoknowtheirways,andtocatchthebestmannerofconformingtothem.Thelittlerusticitiesandawkwardnesseswhichhadatfirstmadegrievousinroadsonthetranquillityofall,andnotleastofherself,necessarilyworeaway,andshewasnolongermateriallyafraidtoappearbeforeheruncle,nordidherauntNorris’svoicemakeherstartverymuch.Tohercousinsshebecameoccasionallyanacceptablecompanion.
