           Inthedrawing-room,whithershethenrepaired,shewassoonjoinedbyMrs.Jennings,withawine-glass,fullofsomething,inherhand.

           "Mydear,"saidshe,entering,"IhavejustrecollectedthatIhavesomeofthefinestoldConstantiawineinthehousethateverwastasted,soIhavebroughtaglassofitforyoursister.Mypoorhusband!howfondhewasofit!Wheneverhehadatouchofhisoldcolickygout,hesaiditdidhimmoregoodthananythingelseintheworld.Dotakeittoyoursister."

           "DearMa’am,"repliedElinor,smilingatthedifferenceofthecomplaintsforwhichitwasrecommended,"howgoodyouare!ButIhavejustleftMarianneinbed,and,Ihope,almostasleep;andasIthinknothingwillbeofsomuchservicetoherasrest,ifyouwillgivemeleave,Iwilldrinkthewinemyself."

           Mrs.Jennings,thoughregrettingthatshehadnotbeenfiveminutesearlier,wassatisfiedwiththecompromise;andElinor,assheswallowedthechiefofit,reflected,thatthoughitseffectsonacolickygoutwere,atpresent,oflittleimportancetoher,itshealingpowers,onadisappointedheartmightbeasreasonablytriedonherselfasonhersister.
