           Theytrudgedonwardswithslantedbodiesthroughtheflossyfields,keepingaswellastheycouldintheshelterofhedges,which,however,actedasstrainersratherthanscreens.Theair,afflictedtopallorwiththehoarymultitudesthatinfestedit,twistedandspunthemeccentrically,suggestinganachromaticchaosofthings.Butboththeyoungwomenwerefairlycheerful;suchweatheronadryuplandisnotinitselfdispiriting.
