           Neitherofherthreechamber-companionshadgotintobed.Theywerestandinginagroup,intheirnightgowns,barefooted,atthewindow,thelastredraysoftheweststillwarmingtheirfacesandnecks,andthewallsaroundthem.Allwerewatchingsomebodyinthegardenwithdeepinterest,theirthreefacesclosetogether:ajovialandroundone,apaleonewithdarkhair,andafaironewhosetresseswereauburn.
