           "Nay,therewasnaughtbuther,andshewashousekeeper;" andofher,reader,IcouldnotbeartoaskthereliefforwantofwhichIwassinking;Icouldnotyetbeg;andagainIcrawledaway. 

           OncemoreItookoffmyhandkerchiefoncemoreIthoughtofthecakesofbreadinthelittleshop. Oh,forbutacrust!forbutonemouthfultoallaythepangoffamine!InstinctivelyIturnedmyfaceagaintothevillage;Ifoundtheshopagain,andIwentin;andthoughothersweretherebesidesthewomanIventuredtherequest"Wouldshegivemearollforthishandkerchief?" 

           Shelookedatmewithevidentsuspicion:"Nay,sheneversoldstuffi’thatway."
