           "Youmustseethecarriage,Jane,andtellmeifyoudon’tthinkitwillsuitMrs.Rochesterexactly;andwhethershewon’tlooklikeQueenBoadicea,leaningbackagainstthosepurplecushions. Iwish,Jane,Iwereatriflebetteradaptedtomatchwithherexternally. Tellmenow,fairyasyouarecan’tyougivemeacharm,oraphilter,orsomethingofthatsort,tomakemeahandsomeman?" 

           "Itwouldbepastthepowerofmagic,sir;" and,inthought,Iadded,"Alovingeyeisallthecharmneeded:tosuchyouarehandsomeenough;orratheryoursternnesshasapowerbeyondbeauty." 

           Mr.Rochesterhadsometimesreadmyunspokenthoughtswithanacumentomeincomprehensible: inthepresentinstancehetooknonoticeofmyabruptvocalresponse;buthesmiledatmewithacertainsmilehehadofhisown,andwhichheusedbutonrareoccasions.
