           Bulstrodedidnotrepeatherbrother’scomplaintstoherhusband,butintheeveningshespoketohimofLydgateandRosamond.Hedidnotshareherwarminterest,however;andonlyspokewithresignationoftherisksattendantonthebeginningofmedicalpracticeandthedesirabilityofprudence.

           "Iamsureweareboundtoprayforthatthoughtlessgirlbroughtupasshehasbeen,"saidMrs.Bulstrode,wishingtorouseherhusband’sfeelings.

           Mrs.Bulstrodesaidnomore,attributingsomedissatisfactionwhichshefelttoherownwantofspirituality.Shebelievedthatherhusbandwasoneofthosemenwhosememoirsshouldbewrittenwhentheydied.

           AstoLydgatehimself,havingbeenaccepted,hewaspreparedtoacceptalltheconsequenceswhichhebelievedhimselftoforeseewithperfectclearness.Ofcoursehemustbemarriedinayearperhapseveninhalfayear.Thiswasnotwhathehadintended;butotherschemeswouldnotbehindered:theywouldsimplyadjustthemselvesanew.
