           "No,notagardener,"saidCelia;"agentlemanwithasketch-book.Hehadlight-browncurls.Ionlysawhisback.Buthewasquiteyoung."

           "Thecurate’sson,perhaps,"saidMr.Brooke."Ah,thereisCasaubonagain,andTuckerwithhim.HeisgoingtointroduceTucker.Youdon’tknowTuckeryet."

           Mr.Tuckerwasthemiddle-agedcurate,oneofthe"inferiorclergy,"whoareusuallynotwantinginsons.Butaftertheintroduction,theconversationdidnotleadtoanyquestionabouthisfamily,andthestartlingapparitionofyouthfulnesswasforgottenbyeveryonebutCelia.Sheinwardlydeclinedtobelievethatthelight-browncurlsandslimfigurecouldhaveanyrelationshiptoMr.Tucker,whowasjustasoldandmusty-lookingasshewouldhaveexpectedMr.Casaubon’scuratetobe;doubtlessanexcellentmanwhowouldgotoheaven(forCeliawishednottobeunprincipled),butthecornersofhismouthweresounpleasant.
