           ‘Mr.Pickwick!’exclaimedJobaloud.

           ‘Eh?’saidJingle,startingfromhisseat.‘Mr—!Soitisqueerplacestrangethingsservesmerightvery.’Mr.Jinglethrusthishandsintotheplacewherehistrouserspocketsusedtobe,and,droppinghischinuponhisbreast,sankbackintohischair.

           Mr.Pickwickwasaffected;thetwomenlookedsoverymiserable.Thesharp,involuntaryglanceJinglehadcastatasmallpieceofrawloinofmutton,whichJobhadbroughtinwithhim,saidmoreoftheirreducedstatethantwohours’explanationcouldhavedone.Mr.PickwicklookedmildlyatJingle,andsaid

           ‘Ishouldliketospeaktoyouinprivate.Willyoustepoutforaninstant?’

           ‘Certainly,’saidJingle,risinghastily.‘Can’tstepfarnodangerofoverwalkingyourselfherespikeparkgroundsprettyromantic,butnotextensiveopenforpublicinspectionfamilyalwaysintownhousekeeperdesperatelycarefulvery.’

           ‘Youhaveforgottenyourcoat,’saidMr.Pickwick,astheywalkedouttothestaircase,andclosedthedoorafterthem.

           ‘Eh?’saidJingle.‘SpoutdearrelationuncleTomcouldn’thelpitmusteat,youknow.Wantsofnatureandallthat.
