           ‘SoallI’vecomeabout,isjestthishere,’saidSam,disregardingtheinterruption;‘first,togivemygovernor’snoticethereitis.Secondly,topaytherenthereitis.Thirdly,tosayasallhisthingsistobeputtogether,andgivetoanybodyaswesendsfor’em.Fourthly,thatyoumaylettheplaceassoonasyoulikeandthat’sall.’

           ‘Whateverhashappened,’saidMrs.Bardell,‘Ialwayshavesaid,andalwayswillsay,thatineveryrespectbutone,Mr.Pickwickhasalwaysbehavedhimselflikeaperfectgentleman.Hismoneyalwaysasgoodasthebankalways.’

           AsMrs.Bardellsaidthis,sheappliedherhandkerchieftohereyes,andwentoutoftheroomtogetthereceipt.

           Samwellknewthathehadonlytoremainquiet,andthewomenweresuretotalk;sohelookedalternatelyatthetinsaucepan,thetoastedcheese,thewall,andtheceiling,inprofoundsilence.

           ‘Poordear!’saidMrs.Cluppins.

           ‘Ah,poorthing!’repliedMrs.Sanders.Samsaidnothing.Hesawtheywerecomingtothesubject.

           ‘Iralycannotcontainmyself,’saidMrs.Cluppins,‘whenIthinkofsuchperjury.
