           Thepuffy-facedyoungmanrose,anddrawingachairclosetoMr.Pickwickinanobscurecorneroftheroom,listenedattentivelytohistaleofwoe.

           ‘Ah,‘hesaid,whenMr.Pickwickhadconcluded,‘DodsonandFoggsharppracticetheirscapitalmenofbusiness,DodsonandFogg,sir.’

           Mr.PickwickadmittedthesharppracticeofDodsonandFogg,andLowtenresumed.‘Perkerain’tintown,andhewon’tbe,neither,beforetheendofnextweek;butifyouwanttheactiondefended,andwillleavethecopywithme,Icandoallthat’sneedfultillhecomesback.’

           ‘That’sexactlywhatIcameherefor,’saidMr.Pickwick,handingoverthedocument.‘Ifanythingparticularoccurs,youcanwritetomeatthepost-office,Ipswich.’

           ‘That’sallright,’repliedMr.Perker’sclerk;andthenseeingMr.Pickwick’seyewanderingcuriouslytowardsthetable,headded,‘willyoujoinus,forhalfanhourorso?Wearecapitalcompanyhereto-night.There’sSamkinandGreen’smanaging-clerk,andSmithersandPrice’schancery,andPimkinandThomas’souto’doorssingsacapitalsong,hedoesandJackBamber,andeversomanymore.
