           ‘Ah!’repliedthestrangercoolly,‘Slammermuchobligedpoliteattentionnotillnow,SlammerbutwhenIamknockyouup.’

           ‘Youyou’reashuffler,sir,’gaspedthefuriousdoctor,‘apoltroonacowardaliaraawillnothinginduceyoutogivemeyourcard,sir!’‘Oh!Isee,’saidthestranger,halfaside,‘negustoostronghereliberallandlordveryfoolishverylemonademuchbetterhotroomselderlygentlemensufferforitinthemorningcruelcruel;’andhemovedonasteportwo.

           ‘Youarestoppinginthishouse,Sir,’saidtheindignantlittleman;‘youareintoxicatednow,Sir;youshallhearfrommeinthemorning,sir.Ishallfindyouout,sir;Ishallfindyouout.’

           ‘Ratheryoufoundmeoutthanfoundmeathome,’repliedtheunmovedstranger.

           DoctorSlammerlookedunutterableferocity,ashefixedhishatonhisheadwithanindignantknock;andthestrangerandMr.TupmanascendedtothebedroomofthelattertorestoretheborrowedplumagetotheunconsciousWinkle.

           Thatgentlemanwasfastasleep;therestorationwassoonmade.
