‘TomSmartwasbynomeansofanirritableorenviousdisposition,butsomehoworotherthetallmanwiththebrowncoatandthebrightbasketbuttonsdidrousewhatlittlegallhehadinhiscomposition,anddidmakehimfeelextremelyindignant,themoreespeciallyashecouldnowandthenobserve,fromhisseatbeforetheglass,certainlittleaffectionatefamiliaritiespassingbetweenthetallmanandthewidow,whichsufficientlydenotedthatthetallmanwasashighinfavourashewasinsize.
