           ‘Inlessthanfiveminutes’time,Tomwasensconcedintheroomoppositethebartheveryroomwherehehadimaginedthefireblazingbeforeasubstantial,matter-of-fact,roaringfire,composedofsomethingshortofabushelofcoals,andwoodenoughtomakehalfadozendecentgooseberrybushes,piledhalf-wayupthechimney,androaringandcracklingwithasoundthatofitselfwouldhavewarmedtheheartofanyreasonableman.Thiswascomfortable,butthiswasnotall;forasmartly-dressedgirl,withabrighteyeandaneatankle,waslayingaverycleanwhiteclothonthetable;andasTomsatwithhisslipperedfeetonthefender,andhisbacktotheopendoor,hesawacharmingprospectofthebarreflectedintheglassoverthechimney-piece,withdelightfulrowsofgreenbottlesandgoldlabels,togetherwithjarsofpicklesandpreserves,andcheesesandboiledhams,androundsofbeef,arrangedonshelvesinthemosttemptinganddeliciousarray.
