           Mr.PottlookeddubiouslyatBobSawyerforsomeseconds,and,turningtoMr.Pickwick,said

           ‘YouhaveseentheliteraryarticleswhichhaveappearedatintervalsintheEatanswillGAZETTEinthecourseofthelastthreemonths,andwhichhaveexcitedsuchgeneralImaysaysuchuniversalattentionandadmiration?’

           ‘Why,’repliedMr.Pickwick,slightlyembarrassedbythequestion,‘thefactis,Ihavebeensomuchengagedinotherways,thatIreallyhavenothadanopportunityofperusingthem.’

           ‘Youshoulddoso,Sir,’saidPott,withaseverecountenance.

           ‘Iwill,’saidMr.Pickwick.

           ‘TheyappearedintheformofacopiousreviewofaworkonChinesemetaphysics,Sir,’saidPott.

           ‘Oh,’observedMr.Pickwick;‘fromyourpen,Ihope?’

           ‘Fromthepenofmycritic,Sir,’rejoinedPott,withdignity.

           ‘Anabstrusesubject,Ishouldconceive,’saidMr.Pickwick.

           ‘Very,Sir,’respondedPott,lookingintenselysage.
