Whilethiswasdoing,IsentFridaywiththecaptain’smatetotheboat,withorderstosecureher,andbringawaytheoarsandsail,whichtheydid; andbyandbythreestragglingmenthatwere(happilyforthem)partedfromtherest,camebackuponhearingthegunsfired; andseeingtheircaptain,whobeforewastheirprisoner,nowtheirconqueror,theysubmittedtobeboundalso,andsoourvictorywascomplete.
ItnowremainedthatthecaptainandIshouldinquireintooneanother’scircumstances. Ibeganfirst,andtoldhimmywholehistory,whichheheardwithanattentioneventoamazement;andparticularlyatthewonderfulmannerofmybeingfurnishedwithprovisionsandammunition; and,indeed,asmystoryisawholecollectionofwonders,itaffectedhimdeeply. Butwhenhereflectedfromthenceuponhimself,andhowIseemedtohavebeenpreservedthereonpurposetosavehislife,thetearsrandownhisface,andhecouldnotspeakawordmore.
AfterthiscommunicationwasatanendIcarriedhimandhistwomenintomyapartment,leadingtheminjustwhereIcameout,viz.,atthetopofthehouse, whereIrefreshedthemwithsuchprovisionsasIhad,andshowedthemallthecontrivancesIhadmadeduringmylong,longinhabitingthatplace.
