IcannotexpressconfusionIwasin; thoughthejoyofseeingaship,andonewhoIhadreasontobelievewasmannedbymyowncountrymen,andconsequentlyfriends,wassuchasIcannotdescribe. ButyetIhadsomesecretdoubtshungaboutme,Icannottellfromwhencetheycame,biddingmekeepuponmyguard. Inthefirstplace,itoccurredtometoconsiderwhatbusinessanEnglishshipcouldhaveinthatpartoftheworld,sinceitwasnotthewaytoorfromanypartoftheworldwheretheEnglishhadanytraffic; Iknewtherehadbeennostormstodrivetheminthere,asindistress; andthatiftheywereEnglishreally,itwasmostprobablethattheywerehereuponnogooddesign,andthatIhadbettercontinueasIwasthanfallintothehandsofthievesandmurderers.
