AtthisIappearedveryangry,expressedmyabhorrenceofit,madeasifIwouldvomitatthethoughtsofit,andbeckonedwithmyhandtohimtocomeaway;whichhedidimmediately,withgreatsubmission. Ithenledhimuptothetopofthehill,toseeifhisenemiesweregone; andpullingoutmyglass,Ilooked,andsawplainlytheplacewheretheyhadbeen,butnoappearanceofthemoroftheircanoes; sothatitwasplainthattheyweregone,andhadlefttheirtwocomradesbehindthem,withoutanysearchafterthem.
ButIwasnotcontentwiththisdiscovery; buthavingnowmorecourage,andconsequentlymorecuriosity,ItakemymanFridaywithme,givinghimtheswordinhishand,withthebowandarrowsathisback,whichIfoundhecoulduseverydexterously, makinghimcarryonegunforme,andItwoformyself,andawaywemarchedtotheplacewherethesecreatureshadbeen; forIhadamindnowtogetsomefullerintelligenceofthem. WhenIcametotheplace,myverybloodranchillinmyveins,andmyheartsunkwithinme,atthehorrorofthespectacle. Indeed,itwasadreadfulsight,atleastitwassotome,thoughFridaymadenothingofit.
