           ItwasTotothatmadeDorothylaugh, andsavedherfromgrowingasgrayasherothersurroundings. Totowasnotgray; hewasalittleblackdog,withlongsilkyhair andsmallblackeyesthattwinkledmerrilyoneithersideofhisfunny,weenose. Totoplayedalldaylong,andDorothyplayedwithhim,andlovedhimdearly.

           Fromthefarnorththeyheardalowwailofthewind, andUncleHenryandDorothycouldseewherethelonggrassbowedinwavesbeforethecomingstorm. Therenowcameasharpwhistlingintheairfromthesouth, andastheyturnedtheireyesthatwaytheysawripplesinthegrasscomingfromthatdirectionalso.
