"Drink."
"Whatisit?"askedtheLion.
"Well,"answeredOz,"ifitwereinsideofyou,itwouldbecourage. Youknow,ofcourse,thatcourageisalwaysinsideone;sothatthisreallycannotbecalledcourageuntilyouhaveswallowedit. ThereforeIadviseyoutodrinkitassoonaspossible."
TheLionhesitatednolonger,butdranktillthedishwasempty.
"Howdoyoufeelnow?"askedOz.
"Fullofcourage,"repliedtheLion,whowentjoyfullybacktohisfriendstotellthemofhisgoodfortune.
Oz,lefttohimself,smiledtothinkofhissuccessingivingtheScarecrowandtheTinWoodmanandtheLionexactlywhattheythoughttheywanted. "HowcanIhelpbeingahumbug,"hesaid,"whenallthesepeoplemakemedothingsthateverybodyknowscan’tbedone?ItwaseasytomaketheScarecrowandtheLionandtheWoodmanhappy,becausetheyimaginedIcoulddoanything. ButitwilltakemorethanimaginationtocarryDorothybacktoKansas,andI’msureIdon’tknowhowitcanbedone."
