           Werefreshedourselveswiththemeatsanddrink,whichwefoundinrichprofusion,andatlastascendedupondeck. Buthereagainweshiveredattheawfulsightofthebodies. Wedeterminedtofreeourselvestherefrom,bythrowingthemoverboard;buthowwerewestartledtofind,thatnoonecouldmovethemfromtheirplaces!Sofirmlyweretheyfastenedtothefloor,thattoremovethemonewouldhavehadtotakeuptheplanksofthedeck,forwhichtoolswerewantingtous. TheCaptain,moreover,couldnotbeloosenedfromthemast,norcouldweevenwrestthesabrefromhisrigidhand. Wepassedthedayinsorrowfulreflectiononourcondition;and,whennightbegantodrawnear,IgavepermissiontotheoldIbrahimtoliedowntosleep,whileIwouldwatchuponthedeck,tolookoutformeansofdeliverance. When,however,themoonshoneforth,andbythestarsIcalculatedthatitwasabouttheeleventhhour,sleepsoirresistiblyoverpoweredmethatIfellback,involuntarily,behindacaskwhichstooduponthedeck. Itwasratherlethargythansleep,forIplainlyheardtheseabeatagainstthesideofthevessel,andthesailscreakandwhistleinthewind.
