Limmershintoldmethatneverinhislife—andLimmershinseestenthousandbigsealsfightingeveryyear—neverinallhislittlelifedidheseeanythinglikeKotick’schargeintothenurseries.Heflunghimselfatthebiggestseacatchhecouldfind,caughthimbythethroat,chokedhimandbumpedhimandbangedhimtillhegruntedformercy,andthenthrewhimasideandattackedthenext.Yousee,Kotickhadneverfastedforfourmonthsasthebigsealsdideveryyear,andhisdeep-seaswimmingtripskepthiminperfectcondition,and,bestofall,hehadneverfoughtbefore.Hiscurlywhitemanestoodupwithrage,andhiseyesflamed,andhisbigdogteethglistened,andhewassplendidtolookat.
