"Nowwillyoutell?"saidKotick,alloutofbreath.
"GoandaskSeaCow,"saidSeaVitch."Ifheislivingstill,he’llbeabletotellyou."
"HowshallIknowSeaCowwhenImeethim?"saidKotick,sheeringoff.

KotickswambacktoNovastoshnah,leavingthegullstoscream.Therehefoundthatnoonesympathizedwithhiminhislittleattempttodiscoveraquietplacefortheseals.Theytoldhimthatmenhadalwaysdriventheholluschickie—itwaspartoftheday’swork—andthatifhedidnotliketoseeuglythingsheshouldnothavegonetothekillinggrounds.Butnoneoftheothersealshadseenthekilling,andthatmadethedifferencebetweenhimandhisfriends.
