           Andasherodethroughavalley,amongmanywildways,hesawaknight,withadrawnsword,chasingaladytoslayher.AndseeingSirLancelot,shecriedandprayedtohimtocomeandrescueher.

           Atthathewentup,saying,“Fieonthee,knight!whywiltthouslaythislady?Thoudoestshametothyselfandallknights.”

           “Whathastthoutodobetweenmeandmywife?”repliedtheknight.“Iwillslayherinspiteofthee.”

           “Thoushallnotharmher,”saidSirLancelot,“tillwehavefirstfoughttogether.”

           “Sir,”answeredtheknight,“thoudoestill,forthisladyhathbetrayedme.”

           “Hespeakethfalsely,”saidthelady,“forheisjealousofmewithoutcause,asIshallanswerbeforeHeaven;butasthouartnamedthemostworshipfulknightintheworld,Ipraytheeofthytrueknighthoodtosaveme,forheiswithoutmercy.”

           “Beofgoodcheer,”saidSirLancelot;“itshallnotliewithinhispowertoharmthee.”

           “Sir,”saidtheknight,“Iwillberuledasyewillhaveme.”

           SoSirLancelotrodebetweentheknightandthelady.
